I remember when I got the invite code to join LiveJournal (back in the day, they were still required), and the person whom I asked for the code told me I was welcome to use one to create a free account, but that I'd probably be happier with a paid one (or something like that; this was about five years ago).

I think I got a paid account three months later or so, and have had one ever since. (Though the Paid Account Fairy who occasionally visits active support volunteers and my later purchase of a permanent account both helped to make the money I actually needed to spend every month/quarter/year more manageable.)

I didn't realize I'd been here longer than you! I joined before invite codes. Back in the summer of 2001.

Yeah, I changed my user name sometime in ... I don't know, maybe 2003. Whenever they introduced name change codes.

Haha, sounds about like what happened with me. A friend gave me an invite code, then a few months later I decided to go paid and never went back. I bought a perm account in the last 6A sale.

You got my first paid account! Then it was the PAF and the PAY after that.

I remember buying paid accounts for promising new support volunteers occasionally, though I don't remember doing it for you specifically! I was even a little bit sad when the PAF started visiting since that meant fewer volunteers with Basic accounts you could sponsor.
