So I pre-ordered The Sims 2 IKEA Home Accessories from Weltbild online several weeks ago.

The game was scheduled to be released on 26 June.

So guess when they shipped the game? Today. (Or so they claim; I haven't received it yet.)

I'd've thought the point of pre-ordering would be to get it as quickly as possible. Specifically, as close to release date as possible: ideally on the morning of the official release date (i.e. they ship it the previous day), or at least have them ship it on the release day so you receive it the next day.

So much for Weltbild online. Shame on you!

Funny, I thought the point of pre-ordering was to ensure you got a copy, since popular titles often sell out of stores on the first day or so.

I didn't think of that, but yes, for things such as the Wii (or the Asus Eee PC, or ...) that's a reasonable expectation.

However, a Sims 2 Stuff Pack is not the sort of item I'd expect to sell out completely on the first day with difficulty obtaining further stock, so I saw only the "get it quickly" aspect - and was disappointed.
