Good luck and enjoy your house!
Thanks!

But I think owning is good; rent is unlikely to go down.

Date: Friday, 18 July 2008 20:10 (UTC)I'm certainly all butterfly-in-my-stomach-y at the moment.
But Stella's done the maths, and a friend of ours has had a good look at the place as well, and the stairs from the first to the second floor (US: second to third) are really good.
(The floor plan seems to have been pretty popular; it's nearly exactly the same as the one of the house my father still lives in, and I spent most of my childhood in. The second floor is really an attic, originally reachable only via a hole in the ceiling and a ladder. But some people make a proper room out of the top and install some method of reaching it -- a spiral staircase off the "children's bedroom" (my father's study) in our case, a hatch with a fold-out ladder in another house we looked at at one point, a self-made and slightly rickety-looking staircase in the case of friends of ours, and a really nice staircase in this case.)
It'll definitely be an adventure, at least the moving part :)

Wait til you start referring to the home improvement store as the toy store.

Date: Friday, 18 July 2008 20:28 (UTC)When we were talking to the lady from the bank this afternoon, we asked her to set up a new account, which the installments for the loan would be drawn from (and where the part of the loan for home improvements would be paid to), and she asked in whose name the debit card should be made out to.
We weren't sure, since we didn't know whether we would need a card at all, but when the lady prompted, "for example, if you go shopping at a home improvement store" we both immediately agreed that it should be in Stella's name!

Und vielleicht ein wenig nostalgisch -- der Schnitt ist praktisch derselbe wie bei dem Haus, wo ich aufgewachsen bin. (Damals war der vermutlich extrem beliebt :D)

How many houses did you look at before you found yours?

I myself looked at two houses and one flat.
But Stella had been checking the Internet for quite a while, and I don't know how many places she evaluated.
(Though I think she didn't go inside any more houses than I did, but she may have checked out some other possibilities from outside. I told her I didn't want to be bothered with possible houses all the time, since I'd really prefer to stay where I am - I like things staying as they are.)
