Stella and I talked a little about where to put electric sockets in our new house, and we thought we'd also ask the electrician to lay some Ethernet cabling while he's opening up the walls.

F. had the electrician put a network outlet in just about every room, which is very convenient at times: Internet wherever you want, webcam in the nursery etc.

For the electric sockets I recommend to imagine the room fully furnished. Then you know where you will need sockets. For instance in the bedroom: sockets for alarm clocks, bedside lamps, vacuum cleaner, stereo etc. In Amy's room consider future needs, such as computer, desk lamp, stereo, printer, charging station for mobile phone etc.

In our living room we even have one socket especially for the Christmas tree lights.

Ah, yes. That was also the inspiration for having our electrician do something similar :) Though we've only spoken about a couple of rooms (e.g. not the living room yet), but we might think about it some more.

For instance in the bedroom: sockets for alarm clocks, bedside lamps, vacuum cleaner, stereo etc.

*nods* We did that for the bed side and the desk/computer side separately.

Good point about Amy's room and planning for the future, though. (Though that will also partly depend on how long Amy will stay in her current room; I imagine she'll move up into the attic at some point, but we haven't firmly planned that far ahead.)

And good reminder about the vacuum cleaner socket.

In our living room we even have one socket especially for the Christmas tree lights.

Ooh, clever.

Thanks!
