I had some family over for my birthday: my father and his wife, and my sister and her husband and children.
They came over straight after stake conference, and we ate dinner together (vegetarian lasagna, better than I had expected!), and then some cake later on.
And I got some presents, too: a comic book each from Elaine+Benjamin and Jennifer+Kay, an Amazon gift certificate from Ireen+Felipe, a globe from Stella+Amy (which Amy had been telling me about since yesterday! Kid needs to learn how to keep a birthday gift a surprise :D), and some books from Daddy+Inka: Herbert Weir Smyth's Greek grammar and J.C.Wells's Accents of English series (all three books). Yay!

Date: Sunday, 16 November 2008 21:44 (UTC)And is everyone having stake conference this weekend or what? I call home to Surrey BC, they're having stake conference this weekend. I try to go to church for the first time here in Camarillo CA, and the chapel's all locked up with an empty parking lot, implying that they're having stake conference too. Has the church gone to church-wide standard stake conference days?

If anything, I'd argue that the church would be *against* church-wide standard stake conference days, if only because staggered conferences make it easier for "special guests" such as Area Authority Seventies to attend more than one stake conference.

Date: Saturday, 22 November 2008 21:36 (UTC)Your birthday present gave me some idea for what I might want for Christmas. Accents of English... cool. Some years ago I searched for something like that on Amazon but didn't find anything useful. With that title as help I managed to find quite some books which are (or at least seem to be) about what I want.
How do I manage to fake an american accent :)
