Maybe you should get an LJ for her

Believe me, I've been trying to do that for weeks :)

I think her main objections are (a) "I don't speak English" [though some write their journals in German, Russian, or whatever] and (b) "I don't want to post my thoughts for just everyone to read". I tell her she doesn't need to post but I think she doesn't see the point.

On the other hand, neither did I a year ago, and here I am now, posting nearly every day.

and introduce her to the excitement of support!:D

Of course, not knowing English would be a problem there.

Ahh... I didn't know she didn't speak English - kinda ruins the support idea! Does she only speak German or does she speak another language too (just not English)?

She only speaks German. (And is taking English at school, but rather unsuccessfully; on a scale from 1 to 6 where 1 is the best, 5 is usually a good test result for her.)

English is a ridiculously over-complicated language in many respects - I often wonder how anyone learns it (this is possibly why so many English people speak it so poorly). I've tried to learn various languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Norwegian). I start off okay (I'm particularly good at accents, I'm told), but then I start to struggle. Not having anyone to practice with is partially the problem, I think, and also perhaps trying to learn too many things at once. When I finish Uni in a few months or so, I'm going to have a go at this free "teach yourself Esperanto" thing that I found on the Internet - it's supposed to be one of the easiest languages to learn, so it should suit me!:P

Esperanto

You could talk to [livejournal.com profile] n_true about it; he's interested in languages, too, and started learning Esperanto from a free (online?) course as well... he's even IMed with people in Esperanto. Or [livejournal.com profile] amuzulo, who has Esperanto as one of his major languages.

Or consider learning Lojban :) See http://www.livejournal.com/users/n_true/157440.html?thread=547328#t547328 for a list of links I picked out for [livejournal.com profile] n_true.
