I remember when I was a child, I used to like telling jokes, just as I still do.

And I'd often try to tell them to my father. Which was usually fine, but totally did not work with knock-knock jokes since he nearly always refused to coöperate.

A typical start would be "Knock, knock." -- "Come in!".

Occasionally, he could be a little coöperative and he'd ask "Who's there?", but when I reply with the setup, he'd say, "I don't know anybody called [setup]. Go away!" or something similar.

It was frustrating sometimes.

Aaaack. I'd hate that. :( Especially as, being a child, you really *want* to show your parents things like that. I personally think it's not right at all as a parent to just brush your kids off like that.

I'm sorry. *hugs*

Personally, I think it's hilarious. Knock knock jokes are completely annoying and I'd love it if more parents discouraged their children from telling them.

It really didn't seem like a brush-off to me...more like a lesson in not relying on people to always give the response you want them to give.
