Accio

One thing that surprised me in the HP7 film was that they pronounced “Accio” as “Ackio”; I had expected “Axio”.

That is, I had expected acc- to have the pronunciation as in “accelerate”, since it’s followed by a high vowel; the pronunciation as in “accordion” would have made sense to me if acc- had been followed by a low vowel.

Remember that Rowling borrowed/made up a lot of the magical words from Latin. Check the Lexicon accio entry :)

True. But there are lots of pronunciations of Latin :) I guess I was expecting an English-like one -- like "imperio" sounding like the beginning of "imperious", with a "peer" sound in the middly rather than the sound of "pear/pair" or "perry", which would probably be more accurate Latin.

You're not looking to the Brits for proper pronounciation of words from other languages, are you? Because if you are, disapointment is coming to stay. :-)
