I had always assumed that the name "Nostratic" was related to "stratum".

But I just read an article on the Nostratic hypothesis that points out that it's derived from the Latin nostrates 'fellow countrymen'.

I always assumed it was from Latin noster, nostra, nostrum 'our, ours'. But I bet nostrates is derived from noster.

Also, nostrates really looks like a plural to me.
