John the Methodist?
Sunday, 24 November 2002 21:24While browing http://www.adherents.com/, I found the following bit in their FAQ, as part of a message from a reader (described as "typical of many we have received from Baptists"):
And why isn't Baptists included in the Christian statistic or why isn't it mentioned? We are the only true Christians living on the face of the earth. You see Jesus Christ was a Baptist, He was baptized by John the Baptist not John The Methodist or John the Catholic.
For some reason, this made me think of the people who say "if English was good enough for Jesus in the Bible, it's good enough for me" or who believe that the King James Version (aka Authorised Version) records the words as literally spoken by Jesus.
And it made me a little sad to read such (IMAO) simple logic spouted forth.
