More baptisms tomorrow

My cousin Sylvia asked me whether I could participate in another baptismal session tomorrow as Eva still has names; I agreed.

She then mentioned that Nadine van Impelen would also be participating: she had brought many name along but had just noticed that they still need to be baptised before she could do the remaining ordinances.

I had seen Nadine and her husband last night already; she looked as pretty as always. I think she is, as the Germans say, an "eye willow" (or should that be "eye pasture"?).

It was intended to be a literal translation from the German... a kind of linguistic joke.

I wasn't sure if you were trying to be literal or were trying to guess the English (being as you put two alternatives)! I'm always self-concious about correcting people's English, as I figure it can come across a bit insulting, but one of my Norwegian friends used to insist I did so that he could learn!

Of course you can make obscure jokes - my journal is full of random stuff that amuses me but usually doesn't mean a thing to most other people!:p

Ah. The two alternatives were because I realised after putting "eye willow" that the second morpheme in the German source word has more than one meaning and that the idiomatic expression I was translating literally probably comes from the other meaning. (Sort of like post = letters and post = pole you put signs on; in this case, "willow" and "pasture". "Eye willow" sounds more surreal, so I left it in.)
