I downloaded LJ Archive, but it just keeps saying the server isn't responding. The site works perfectly for browsing - I wonder if mass-downloading is turned off or something?

No idea; I haven't tried it myself.

Don't forget LJ Book. (http://www.ljbook.com/) It even archives comments.

I think the reason I didn't include it back then was because it makes you give your password to another site, whereas the other solutions listed run on your own computer, where you have a bit more control.

Is it any good, though? I've never tried it.

Since I'm on a Mac, it's the only option I had other than LJ's resident tool, which does't preserve comments and may or may not do cut-tagged entries, I'm unclear.

I changed my password before making my .pdfs, and then changed it back after. It worked just fine. It was hanging a bit right around the time of the Six Apart purchase, I forget why (it wasn't overload I think) but once they resolved the issue, it worked like a charm. It also then gives you a way to search your journal, which is nice!

How about Frienditto?

You'd have to submit each entry one by one, as far as I know, so it's a lot more work than jbackup or ljArchive.

Also, the methods I listed run on your own PC and don't require you to give your password to another site in order to access protected entries (another user suggested LJBook, which also has that requirement).

And for thirds, Frienditto is currently unavailable; if it goes away and comes back like this in the future, it's an ineffective way of backing up your journal -- a backup that you can't access isn't of much use.
