That's pretty. What does it say?

I'm not entirely certain, to be honest :)

Babelfish translates them as "Wishing you a prosperous new year" and "Best wishes", respectively.

I think the second one is literally something like "may everything go the way you desire" but I'm less sure of the literal meaning of the first one - though the last two characters are something like "produce" and "wealth" while the first two seem to be something about being happy.

I personally translate 萬事如意 as "may whatever you do have meaning." =P

Although, literally:
- thousand
- things that you do(business?)
- become
- meaning

Oi. And this is me being blind and dense and not noticing the first idiom.

恭喜發財 - "Wishing you prosperity"

恭喜 - congratulations
發財 - to make money/be prosperous.

- Congratulations and prosperity wishes. 恭喜 is a general congratulations and 發財 is "to come into good financial fortune/prosperity".

- May you attain all that you wish for; may everything happen as you desire (as [livejournal.com profile] pne said). This is a positive wish and definitely not meant to be a curse like it's popularly mistranslated.

Hope this helps =)
