Brought to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] chiisaihito, ProgressQuest is a delightfully simple computer role-playing game.

It features such standard fare as killing monsters, acquiring loot and experience, and going on quests, but without the mindless tedium and micromanagement of some other games! Everything is fully automatic! Just start it and watch the progress bar go up, and up, and up...

I think it's pretty funny. (Stella says she can't understand what I see in it. I maintain it has a kind of minimalistic humour.)

If you're interested, check out the standing of my first on-line character (complete with randomly-generated name, whee!). And my second one, conveniently named 'pne'.

Also, if you're interested, come join the "LiveJournal" guild. (Press Ctrl+G while the program is running.)

Oh, my, this is terribly entertaining. Far more amusing than it should be, really.

No realm yet; I just signed up online without downloading the program; I am with my parents and using my dad's laptop. Will be home tomorrow.

I signed up, but I can't figure out how to create an online character. The offline version is only for Windows.

I was confused, too, at first.

There's only the downloadable program, but it gives you the choice of a "Single-player" (offline) or "Multi-player" (online) game. Though the "online" bit only means that it sends a bit of data to the server each time you start or quit the game or (I believe) when you level up, so that your character will be in the highscore list. That's it.

There's no playable component on the website; it's all through the downloadable Windows binary.

My lothario used to play that. :) I remember watching some of the quests he solved.

Hah. Very silly. I let it run this evening and my talking pony is already level 15. Gooooo pony!

Reminds me of the IRC game I play, http://idlerpg.ethernal.org/ : IdleRPG, the IRC Game that's easy to play.

That description does sound very similar, yes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the program is a worm or virus of sorts and spreads incredibly easily because people run after silly stuff like this like the hordes.
