Installed the monitor now; looks good. 1280×1024@60 Hz (which I had configured prior to disconnecting) looks bad on the CRT though! But decent on the LCD.

TV doesn't look so good on the LCD, though—during fast movements, the picture is rather blurry. But I think that's a general problem that LCDs have.

Quite a few people at work got new 21" TFTs, and with higher resolution, they had rather blurry views. They got graphic cards with digital outlet then, and that helped a lot, the pictures are really sharp now.

I'm using a digital outlet as well; fortunately, both my graphics card and the new monitor have appropriate connectors. (The 17" Aldi TFT only has a VGA input, not DVI as well.)

That blurring is the only thing that bothers me about LCDs, but I still prefer them for their clarity. I've read (I think it might have been somewhere on Slashdot (http://www.slashdot.com)) that there are some LCDs, either new or still in the works, with much higher refresh rates that approach those of CRTs.

I think so; I've just purchased a new laptop with an LCD screen, which is my first serious contact with that type of screen. The very first thing I noticed was that, although I can get 1024x768x232 now (hooray), I can't run really fast movies or graphics without having slight trails.

Of course, now that I'm accustomed to LCD, my old 640x480x216 CRT is painfully bright and seems very last millennium. :)
