At first I wasn't sure whether the red dots towards the bottom right of this image were a BCD clock like the one at home, showing the time 22:56:17, or were Braille. (Though in the latter case, they'd be "connble" in English, or "alnich" in German, neither of which is a word.)

Still, the urge to interpret the shapes as Braille was irresistible for me.

That would agree with the time given in the terminal and RSS-Grab windows. And the other clock, for that matter. It is an unusual clock, though, with it's extra dots that will never be used.

I suppose they were added for symmetry.

I do that with Roman/Cyrillic letters that overlap (e.g. Н, т - same shape, different sound). Sometimes I don't even notice that my brain parsed them wrong for a moment, so I have to do a mental double-take.

Hmm, it didn't do it in this case, but an italic or handwritten Cyrillic т looks like a Roman lowercase m. This explanation should help my parenthetical note make more sense.

In typography (as opposed to handwriting), this is usually only the case in serif fonts.

I sent my boyfriend one of these (http://www.thinkgeek.com/cubegoodies/lights/59e0/) last Christmas :)

Mine looks similar but lacks some of the features such as "true binary" and line frequency autosensing etc. Still pretty nifty!

And my wife can read it more easily than I can...

A lot of graphic designers seem to be using braille-like dot patterns to make things look futuristic/technical.
