Narnia

I went and saw Narnia yesterday.

On the whole, I rather liked it. I felt that the children's characters were portrayed fairly well. My favourite was Lucy, though—Georgie Henley is quite the cutie, and I liked her range of facial expressions.

I agree about Lucy — I think she really brightened up the whole film — but she did seem a bit forced and unnatural in some scenes, such as the one where she first appears in Narnia: it felt a wee bit too obvious that there must have been someone sitting just out of shot, coaxing her and saying things like "Now, remember to look happy and surprised, Georgie!", causing her to put on her Happy And Surprised Face and not take it off for the next ten minutes. That said, coaxing "natural" performances out of child actors must be vastly more trying than with normal actors..

I didn't realise that the whole predestination thing had come to annoy me quite as much since I read the books at around the age of ten.

The IMDB claims (http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0363771/trivia) that Georgie Henley's reaction to the Narnia forest is genuine. She was so excited about seeing the set that the director blindfolded her and carried her on set, then started to film, however.

I didn´t dislike Narnia, but to me it seemed very much a ´watered-down´ version of the BBC series I saw when I was younger.
Maybe it faded in mind in relation to LOTR and Harry Potter... who knows!
