Our computer at home won't turn on any more, since yesterday (Friday). No idea what's wrong with it.

However, that motivated me to get WLAN up and running, and I'm now typing on Stella's laptop, connecting to the Internet through the WLAN adapter.

That worked after a while, though I think I'd rather see the nuts and bolts of the connection than the dumbed-down interface that the ISP provided.

For starters, I'd like to connect to the access point to configure the SSID and switch from WEP to WPA, if possible, but I can't find any such settings in the software.

Also, I keep getting popups from "Nachrichtendienst" (Windows Messaging Service?) telling me that errors were found in my registry and to download software from some dubious site to fix that. Any idea how to get rid of those, e.g. by disabling the service or blocking the incoming messages?

Also, occasionally the computer will seem to stop responding... svchost.exe is running at 99% CPU, which may be connected to that, and I have no idea what's going on here. (I also saw tftp.exe in the task manager earlier, which I found suspicious.)

I hope I'm not turning into a zombie.
