On Sunday, Sandolf was baptised, and Stella, Amy, and I went to the baptism.

There, we met a Sister Cha, and I asked her whether her name was Korean (it is), whether it's spelled with ㅈ or ㅊ (the latter, i.e. 차), and how to spell it in hanca (車).

One of her companions was Sister McLeod (pronounced, roughly, "McCloud"), who said she was from New Hampshire. Not often you meet people from there, and I remarked that I knew someone who had lived in Manchester; she said that was about fifteen minutes away from where she lived, and that (IIRC) her parents had lived there for quite a while.

Is any part of New Hampshire more than fifteen minutes from Manchester?

I have no idea, but I'll admit I was amused when she was so happy about knowing where the places I talked about (Manchester; Wellesley) were -- I don't know exactly how big NH is, but I knew it's comparatively small, as US states go.

Yes. Most of it. The populated southern part is mostly within an hour's drive of each other, but getting up to the north country takes about two, three hours depending on where you start.

I grew up in N.H., so I'm very familiar with it. I live in Cambridge now but I still miss some parts of N.H. (The entire place being covered with pavement for convenient parking, not so much, the tax rates, hell yes.)

Not to mention how fresh your horses are.

She also knew about "Manchvegas" and added that a nearby town, Londonderry, is commonly called "L-Town" by teenagers. (I was half expecting "Stroke City" as the nickname, though she probably wouldn't have known why.)

And she was all excited that I knew someone from NH :)
