Amy this morning: "Mami hat an mein Fuß sitzt".

Two noteworthy things about that are both in the word "sitzt": firstly, she seems to have generalised the -t morpheme for the past participle (though in this particular case, it should have been "gesessen", not "gesitzt" - I suppose it's a "strong" verb), and secondly, she fairly consistently omits the "ge-" morpheme of German past participles — just as it's done in, say, Low German, or English, for that matter.

I always find it interesting when Amy does things the way some other natlang does it; somehow that makes it seem more natural (in an "I can see where that development might have come from" way).

Welcome!

After even a cursory look at your journal, it's interesting (to me, at least) how there are a couple of similarities between your daughter and mine.

Waters broke late at night (http://dampscribbler.livejournal.com/56340.html), check. (You seem to have had a quicker delivery (http://dampscribbler.livejournal.com/56603.html), though -- Amy didn't come until 11:30 pm the next day, nearly 24 hours after Stella's waters broke.)

Breastfed for over two years (the ribbon on your profile (http://dampscribbler.livejournal.com/profile?mode=full)) -- Amy was 2y7m when she was weaned.

Even the birthdate -- 15 August to 6 September is less than a month.

I won't add you just now, since I have a hard time keeping up with my friends list as it is, but do feel free to read (and comment, if you like) -- most entries are public!

Yes, I noticed Amy's birthdate after I posted my comment. Interesting!

At risk of TMI, one of the wackiest things about weaning is that even now, about a year later, I'm still producing the tiniest amount of milk, and will get a let-down in the afternoon several times a week. Has Stella noticed anything like that?

I did have a nice, quick delivery. For which I am deeply grateful. 24 hours sounds rough. Then there was my friend Steph, who was in labor with no medications (homebirth) for 40 hours.

Nice to meet you!

I haven't heard her mention the let-down bit, but for quite a while after weaning, she could still express a drop or two of milk.

It was -- and the circumstances surrounding the experience contribute to her desire not to go through it again. (She most likely nearly died, partly because doctors were taking care of the newborn rather than of her.)

We're currently trying to adopt a child, though.

Nice to meet you!

And you!

Through whom did you meet me? [livejournal.com profile] livredor, I presume?

For me, birth was the easy part. It was the first nine months of parenthood that are keeping us from trying it again. My husband, Eric, and I both suffered exhaustion (as is typical, I know) and had lots of physical symptoms come up. We're still working through his. And mine, too, I suppose. But I won't bore you with the details here. We've pretty much resigned ourselves to having just one. I wish you the best of luck with your adoption.

I'm so sorry to hear that Stella had such a difficult birth experience. Mine was paradigm-shifting, to dredge up a moldy old description. I wish every woman (and man for that matter, but that's more complicated) could have the kind of birth experience I had with Maggie. Maybe I'll make more of a point to journal about it than I have so far.

I see that [livejournal.com profile] livredor is our only mutual friend, so yes it must be her. That's the mystery of the friendsfriends page, you're never sure until you check the user info who the common link is.
