Wednesday, 9 June 2010 15:05D'oh! I messed up on the "number of days in a month". Please ignore that question and use this poll instead. (You'll probably have to use your "Back" button afterwards to get back to this entry, since the extra poll will take you to a dummy entry after submission.)

Date: Wednesday, 9 June 2010 20:55 (UTC)42 vs 12 hour clocks
Date: Thursday, 10 June 2010 05:08 (UTC)Because it's the same here: even though the 24-hour clock is common, it's only used for precise things when you read "hours:minutes", but not for "minutes past/before hour".
To use your example: "siebzehn Uhr fünfzig" is fine, as is "zehn vor sechs" - but not "zehn vor achtzehn". (German simply does "ten before six", not "five after quarter past". Though for 17:35, we'd have "fünf nach halb sechs" = "five (minutes) after half (of) six".)

Date: Thursday, 10 June 2010 05:03 (UTC)Which numbers correspond to which language? 26, presumably, is English, but which are 44/30/31? I presume Hungarian, Serbian, Macedonian, in some combination, but which way?

Date: Thursday, 10 June 2010 14:04 (UTC)Hungarian, 44: a á b c cs d dz dzs e é f g gy h i í j k l ly m n ny o ó ö ő p q r s sz t ty u ú ü ű v w x y z zs -- though q, w, x, and y by itself aren't used except in some foreign words or in the case of y in some older spellings, so Hungary has either 40 or 44 letters, depending on how you count it.
Serbian and Macedonian have the same letters, but Macedonian has an additional letter ѕ (pronounced "dz"), also, Macedonian pronounces a couple letters differently so they write them differently as well, ќ = ћ and ѓ = ђ =macedonian letter first, serbian second). ќ is pronounced kind of like kj the "c" in "cute", and ѓ is like gj, the voiced equivalent.
