I swap snacks
Sunday, 8 March 2009 13:25I'm totally excited about
we_swap_snacks and can hardly wait till signups open next weekend.
(And I wonder whether to wish to an Australian—so I could see what Tim-Tams are like—or an American—so I can see what Peeps are like. I think I'll just take whoever's assigned to me; chances are that'll be an American simply because of where the majority of users live.)

Date: Sunday, 8 March 2009 14:50 (UTC)I just wish that Norway wasn't so expensive - 15 dollars worth of snacks will get you almost nothing. But mailing it would be criminally expensive... And that I hadn't vowed myself no chocolate.

I was pointed to it by
And while I was waiting for the next official swap (six weeks or so since I joined the community?), and reading people post pictures from the last swap and/or from private swaps, it made me totally excited, too.

Well, you're free to spend more, of course, as long as you don't expect your partner to do so, too... though if you communicate with them and they're fine with a higher sum, then anything goes. The $15 is just a suggested figure.
But mailing it would be criminally expensive...
Yeah, that's the big killer. I mean, something's just kinda wrong about paying $45 to ship $15 worth of snacks.
And that I hadn't vowed myself no chocolate.
Given it up for Lent? Or in general?
Though there are lots of snacks that don't involve chocolate...

That was my thoughts too. And then I checked the prices, and they seems to be starting at $75. I knew there was a reason why I never send anything but postcards!

Given up in general. I eat it when I am offered, but I do not buy it myself. And chocolate is mainly my snack of choice - I am weird like that.
But it would be fun to try out all those strange things I read about all the time!

Date: Sunday, 8 March 2009 18:46 (UTC)Best if eaten slightly stale, IMO.

Date: Sunday, 8 March 2009 20:16 (UTC)I heard that! And that some people say they should be fresh, others say they should be stale, others in between... being able to form my own opinion and see what the difference is in the first place would be fun :)
What happens to them, exactly, when they go stale? Do they go hard? Change taste? Texture? And how long does it take for them to go stale?

They do get a bit harder and the taste is more or less the same, just not as fresh tasting as if they were straight up out of the box. I usually leave mine open for about 24 hrs to get them to the correct staleness.

Date: Monday, 9 March 2009 13:46 (UTC)Let me tell you a story. When I was doing undergrad anatomy, we had an exchange student from the U.S., named Randi, in one of our classes, who we got to know quite well, and eventually joined some of my friends and me for study sessions at various of our homes. My mate Bevan decided to purchase some Tim Tams for one of these sessions, since we knew Randi, as an American, had never had them before. Anyway, there are eleven Tim Tams in a packet - she ended up eating a packet and a half.
I'd be happy to send you some, if you'd like?

If you want to anyway, my address is here (http://pne.livejournal.com/1974/11/16/).
